Presentation skills

The focus for these courses is about the kinds of activities that people are engaged with in the voluntary sector.
Example course:

“Development of resource pack for presenting your case”

A two or three day course is offered during which the participants develop a presentation pack about their organisation.
The course can include:
  • Identifying your audience
  • Developing your message
  • Understanding the way different media work
  • Deciding which media to use
  • Making news
  • Developing a portfolio of materials
  • Writing a press release
  • Giving a presentation
They also practice presenting their ideas to the group and work together to improve their skills.
The course can be adapted in many different ways. This course works very well with a group from one organisation. The group can then jointly identify their target audience and work together during the duration of the course to produce materials and resources.
One group worked on developing a presentation pack that could be used to give talks about the work of their organisation to potential users. Another group wanted to present their case to their local council. In this instance many of the participants had never been to a council meeting so we included a group exercise to practice presenting in this context.
I am also able to work to help an organisation think more creatively about how to get over its message or with individuals to help them think about how to present dry or difficult information.
A workbook about developing a presentation pack will be available in 2003. Please e-mail me if you are interested in this resource.
